Standards
The ANSI A300-1995 standard has been drafted to address pruning specification
requirements across all geographic areas. This standard was adopted
so that Arborists and managers who put plant maintenance contracts out
to bid can develop accurate pruning specifications, following the accepted
tree care industry practices. The ANSI A300-1995 pruning types are:
- Crown Cleaning: Crown Cleaning shall consist of selective removal
of one or more of the following items: dead, dying, diseased, weak branches
and waterspouts from a tree's crown. Remove broken and crossing branches.
- Crown Thinning: Crown Thinning shall consist of selective removal
of branches to increase light penetration, air movement, and reduce
weight.
- Crown Reduction: (Crown Shaping) Crown Reduction reduces the top,
sides, or individual limbs by means of removal of the leader or longest
portion of a limb to a lateral no less that one-third of the total diameter
of the original limb removing no more than 25% of the leaf surface.
(The ability of a species to withstand this type of pruning must be
considered.)
- Vista Pruning: Vista Pruning is selective thinning of framework limbs
or specific areas of the crown to allow a specific view of an object
from a predetermined point.
- Crown Restoration: Crown Restoration pruning should improve the structure,
form, and appearance of trees that have been severely headed, vandalized,
or storm damaged.
Topping a tree is never recommended! Crown Reduction,
done properly, can achieve a similar goal and not ruin the integrity
of the tree. Even the word "Topping" is frowned upon in
the professional field. The terms defined above are the accepted terms
generally used by arborists and the entire arboriculture field.

Olive
Spraying
Key Benefits
- Reduce or eliminate pollen activity. Over the years we have seen
a great decrease in pollen when trees are sprayed early to prevent flowering.
- Reduce or prevent olive formation. We average 90% - 100% control.
- Reduce or eliminate unsightly purple olive stains on your sidewalks
and those carried into your home by pets, or on your shoes.
- Keeps sidewalks clean, so nobody slips. Keep away from those injuries!
- Prevents birds from carrying them around the neighborhood and dropping
them where they are unwanted - like your neighbor's house (although
sometimes that might be desirable).
Licensed and Insured
Any company spraying must carry liability insurance and workman's
compensation on all applicators. Those who spray must carry a "Registered
Employee Card", which is only issued by the Structural Pest Control
Board. A Certified Arborist certification does not allow one to spray.
A Certified Arborist must still qualify for a Certified Applicator
card. They also need a "Qualifying Party" card holder to
represent them on spray. For any clarifications on this matter, please
call the Structural Pest Control Board.

Queen
Palms
Queen Palms Are Our Specialty!!!
- We treat over 1000 Queen Palms per year. They are one
of our main plant-care specialties. Our special mixture of nutrients
is unequalled within our industry, and we guarante we'll do our best
to make them prosper!!!
- A well-established palm is considered a low-maintenance item. A regular
program of proper irrigation and fertilization lsuited to the conditions
and needs of the palm, will help achieve the desired look.
- Our specialty treatments consist of numerous required nutrients. Which
when applied regularly, can allow your Queen Palms to develop an appropriate
nutritional balance.
- Regularly scheduled applications can, in most cases, restore your
tree to the beautiful Queen Palm that you always wanted and thought
you bought.
- In some cases it may take 1-2 years to restore your palm to its original
beauty, but if your Queen Palm has been neglected too long, it may not
be possible to restore it to its original splendor.
- If others are telling you to use Bordeaux, or that you have bud or
crown rot; you might want to call us. We know what Queen Palms need!

- Regular application can help prevent disease and fungus from invading
a healthy plant.
- Promotes lush growth and more vibrant colors in flowering plants and
trees.
- Can encourage a slow-growing plant, or tree to accelerate it's maturity,
grow faster.

Preemergence
Overview
Preemergence herbicides persist in the soil and control susceptible
weeds for two to six months. The level of control depends on the specific
herbicide and rate being used, soil physical and chemical properties,
soil moisture levels, soil temperatures, as well as the species of turfgrass.
Additionally, the type of herbicide formulation and uniformity of application
also has a major influence on the level of control achieved.
Application before germination
Preemergence herbicides must be applied prior to weed seed germination.
The mode of action for most preemergence herbicides (e.g., bensulide,
benefin, dithiopyr, oryzalin, pendimethalin, prodiamine) is the inhibition
of certain phases of cell division during the seed germination process.
As the weed seed germinates, the herbicide is absorbed by the root or
shoot, cell division is blocked, growth is inhibited and eventually
the immature seedling dies.
The optimum application timing for preemergence herbicides varies depending
on both the characteristics of the herbicide and environmental conditions.
Applications made at or close to planting usually are more consistent
than applications made several weeks ahead of planting, except in situations
where no significant rainfall events occur in the first few weeks following
planting and herbicide application. During dry springs, early preplant
applications may be more consistent than at-planting applications due
to the greater likelihood of the herbicide being moved into the soil
profile by rain. However, early preplant herbicides may fail to provide
full season control in years with above average rainfall or delayed
planting due to the greater time period between application and crop
canopy formation.
Emerged weeds visible at the time of application are not controlled
by preemergence herbicides.
